New Multi-Gen Comic Strip: Cartoonist Ed Stein will be launching a new comic strip on September 20th. The strip is called Freshly Squeezed and will be based on a multi-generational household. ”Can three generations of one family share their lives, their feelings, their dwindling fortune — and a bathroom?” Apparently these questions all get their humorous due. So far the Knoxville News Sentinel is scheduled to pick up Freshly Squeezed. Let us know if your paper starts to publish this new multi-gen gem.  See more of Freshly Squeezed here.

Adjusting to Multi-Gen Living: Eva has been posting in her candid and moving blog, Eva Evolving, about adjusting to her father-in-law’s arrival in her home. My favorite so far is a post entitled Fake it ‘Til You Make It (Mixing Oil and Water). Even under the best of circumstances, the transition to any new living arrangement has its challenges. And for new multi-gens, adjusting can seem like a never-ending process — until the day it isn’t — as Eva discovered one day.  Read all of Eva’s posts about her multi-gen transition here.

Multi-Gen in the Workforce: Many families are making a transition to three-generation households — and so is the workplace. The fragile economy has teens seeking work earlier and many seniors holding on to jobs longer. While there are a number of academic studies on the subject, my favorite treatment of the topic was an article in the Collin County Business Press.  Sherri Elliott-Yeary fired her own daughter not once — but three times. Lucky for Elliott-Yeary (and her daughter), she began to understand and bridge the workplace generation gap. You can read the article here.
