June 2010
A survey of real estate professionals by Coldwell Banker in both Canada and the U.S. has confirmed that in the past year more and more potential home buyers are seeking new and resale properties that can house more than one or two generations. The June 2010 survey found that home shoppers were looking not just for more square footage but for designs and amenities that deal with the realities of the multi-generational lifestyle.
While financial considerations were the major impetus for these buyers, it was also clearly indicated that cities with larger international populations were seeing these requests rise because of the more traditional lifestyle of cultures that embrace the concept of multi-generational living.
A prime market for such buyers would be the remodel and reconversion of larger properties that had previously been subdivided into smaller rental units.
